The USS Edsall was overpowered by a Japanese fleet in the Indian Ocean but fought valiantly to the end, the U.S. Navy said. It was found in deep waters south of Australia's Christmas Island.

The wreckage of the U.S. destroyer USS Edsall, sunk by Japanese forces more than 80 years ago during World War II, has been found at the bottom of the Indian Ocean, according to the U.S. Navy.

The USS Edsall, a 314-foot destroyer sunk by Japanese forces in 1942, was known as "the dancing mouse" for its ability to evade attacks.
