Rhode Island FC officially clinched its first trophy in club history on Saturday, taking down Charleston Battery 2-1 at Patriots Point Soccer Stadium in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, to win the USL Championship Eastern Conference title.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WPRI) — Rhode Island FC are looking to punch their ticket to the USL Championship Finals. After beating No. 1 overall seed Louisville City FC, the club is headed to South Carolina to take on No. 2 seed Charleston Battery at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Battery threw all numbers forward in the final minutes of the match to grab an equalizer and force extra-time, but the comeback bid fell short as Charleston were unable to record a shot in stoppage time. Rhode Island held on to win, 1-2, and claim the Eastern Conference title.

Rhode Island FC plays in the club's first ever conference championship down in Charleston. A win would send the club to the league finals.

Rhode Island FC continued to etch its name in the USL Championship history books on Saturday, becoming the first expansion club in five years to advance to a conference final after it took down Players’ Shield winners Louisville City FC 3-0 at Lynn Family Stadium.
